In this maddening world of social media and divisive political discourse, it’s easy to sit behind a screen watching tweets and posts and think you know what’s happening in our community, that typing your quick response is voicing concern and making a difference.  But is it?

I offer you another option.  A refreshing way to reconnect with your fellow citizens.  To meet your elected representatives face to face. To learn about city resources and volunteer opportunities from amazing organizations big and small.  To see how you can turn your own passion into action, to make our community, our city, our region a better place to live.

It’s an old-fashioned fair of sorts, with a civic twist. I welcome you to join me this Sunday from 1-5 p.m. at Norview High School in Norfolk for my 4th Annual Engage Norfolk.  It’s free and open to the public.  We have more than 100 organizations presenting info and opportunities, ranging from political parties and presidential campaigns to the environment, the arts, animals, education, civic & faith organizations, children, public safety and much, much more.

For a full list of organizations present, civic workshops and elected representatives, check us out at www.engagenorfolk.com (or click on the image below) for details.  Put that keyboard down and your phone away this Sunday.  Join me to connect and engage!
