The Pulse Remembrance Event
June 12 at 6:30 pm - 8:30 pmFree
On June 12th, 2016 the lives of 49 souls were cut short in The Pulse Nightclub of Orlando, Florida from a deadly shooting. In memory of those 49 lives, and in an act of defiance to the fear and terror our community felt that night; queer members of the Hampton Roads community and their allies will gather to demand visibility and recognition of our pain and suffering, and ask the entire Hampton Roads Community to grieve and create a space for all of us to feel welcomed, heard, and seen.
At 6:30pm, the community will gather on the lawn out front of the Walter E Hoffman Courthouse to share in conversations and a lighting of candles in memory of the lives lost that night. At 7pm the community will be welcomed as a reading of the names commences, with each name read their pictures will be ceremoniously laid together to remind us of the size of their lives, and the hole left behind in our world due to their loss.
At the end of the evening, there will be words of power shared amongst us as flowers are dispersed among the pictures; telling them they shall not be forgotten and allowing each of us to commit to making this world better in the memory of those we’ve lost.
