The violent storm blew through around dinner time with lashing winds, torrential rains, and angry lightning. As quickly as it bore down on Hampton Roads it passed, and a perfect semicircle rainbow that connected one end of our city to the other.
As the rainbow faded into an indigo twilight, about 250 people gathered in the parking lot of WHRO in Norfolk to pay tribute to the 50 dead and 53 wounded in this morning’s tragic mass shooting in Orlando. The crowd, as diverse as the rainbow that had graced the sky an hour before, grew close in, candles lit against the dark, and paid their respects.
Orlando, we hope our prayers bring you solace.
