Hampton Roads Pride Now Accepting New Board Member Applications

Hampton Roads Pride today announced that new board member applications are now being accepted for 2022. Applications are due by July 28.

Applicants will be reviewed and applicants interviewed by the Hampton Roads Pride nominations committee. According to the organization’s bylaws, the committee will present a slate of nominees to the membership at the August membership meeting. The membership will then vote on that slate at the September meeting. New board members will be installed at that time.

  • Board member responsibilities include:
  • Attending twelve membership meetings and twelve Executive Board meetings a year.
  • Chairing or co-chairing a committee
  • Being an active fundraiser and membership recruiter for Hampton Roads Pride.
  • Representing Hampton Roads Pride in the community

In 1988, the group that would become the incorporated non-profit organization Hampton Roads Pride in 1997 began hosting annual summertime festivals usually in June to celebrate the LGBT community. These festivals provided testimony to the resilience, diversity, and spirit of our community, but they rarely attracted individuals outside the activists and pioneers who held them at Mount Trashmore in Virginia Beach, Lakewood Park in Norfolk, and Chesapeake City Park.

Hampton Roads Pride’s annual PrideFest has been held in Norfolk’s Town Point Park every June since 2011. This year’s PrideFest will be held at the Norfolk Scope Arena Plaza on September 12.
