Returning home to Virginia to serve as Grand Marshal of Hampton Road’s PrideFest 2019 celebration, Angela Hucles Mangano of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties’ Beverly Hills office has made it her mission to stand up for those who can’t.
“This is a very special honor for me to go back to my hometown, and celebrate Pride in such a public way,” said Angela, who was urged to participate in Hampton Roads Pride by a friend.
As this year’s Hampton Roads Pride Grand Marshal at PrideFest, taking place June 22, at Town Point Park in Norfolk, Angela will celebrate the events alongside the LGBT and allied communities. The week-long Hampton Roads Pride series aims to create an environment of inclusion, dignity, and equality.
“Growing up, I always felt very different being a female person of color, but also being LGBT, and not really knowing anyone who I could relate to,” Angela recounted. “Being a part of PrideFest is something I never could have imagined as a young woman.”
A humble and tenacious agent in the Beverly Hills office, Angela is a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, and two-time World Cup Bronze Medalist for the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team. She is also a sports analyst for her second FIFA Women’s World Cup with FOX Sports. In 2015, Angela was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame. Additionally, she was named the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s Humanitarian of the Year in 2009.
Beverly Hills Branch Manager Nick Cacarnakis believes Angela’s work ethic and integrity shines through daily. “Angela is incredibly modest about each and every single one of her amazing accomplishments. She treats everyone she meets with the utmost respect. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of the opportunity than her.”
Angela is a firm believer in giving back to the community and inspiring youth and future leaders. She founded Empowerment Through Sport, a sports and leadership organization for collegiate and elite-level female athletes who are maneuvering into the workplace. She also served as President of the Women’s Sports Foundation, from 2015 to 2017.
“I am so impressed, seeing so many individuals today making a difference in their communities and in people’s lives,” said Angela. “For so many years I hid a part of me, scared about what others would think or say. But the LGBT family is all of our families… we are your sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers, best friends, co-workers, ministers, and service workers. We are the people you interact with on a daily basis.”
