Zeiders American Dream Theater (a.k.a. The Z) located in Virginia Beach’s Town Center, under the leadership of Artistic Director Bart Kuebler and Executive Director Terry Flint is pleased to present the first Proteus Festival which coincides with a grand opening of the theater’s new facility.
The Z’s new state of the art theater, contains a 309 seat Main Stage Theater and 120 seat Studio Theater will open its doors this weekend for the Proteus Festival. Taking its roots from the likes of SXSW in Austin, Texas, the Proteus Festival offers a whole weekend of music, theater and film. Proteus Festival begins October 5–7, 2018 with 3 Day Standard Badges ($75), 3 Day Gold Badges ($150) and Single Day Admission Wristbands ($25) currently on sale.
A 3-Day Standard Badge gives you admittance to The Z for all three days of the Festival and access to all Festival activities (first come, first serve!) and access to all Festival activities with front of line priority privileges and access to the Gold Badge Lounge before Saturday’s Main Stage Act.
“I am thrilled to be bringing in both The Hunts and Kishi Bashi as featured artists during the inaugural Proteus Festival. We started Proteus Festival to spread our vision of building a vibrant creative community, and we could find no better examples of what that means than these two artists,” says Artistic Director Bart Kuebler.
The 2018 Proteus Festival lineup features a diverse range of acts, spanning music genres like rock, electronic, folk, blues, celtic, and more. Lead artists BJ Griffin (music), CORE Theatre Ensemble (Theater) and Jason Kypros (Film) with also take top spots during the three day festival. There will be four new plays making debuts during the festival along with screening the movie, The Joneses starring Demi Moore and David Duchovny. The Joneses director, Derrick Borte, will be in town to screen the movie and join a panel to talk about the movie and his filmmaking. Another film being screened with a talkback afterward is Kishi Bashi’s Omoiyari, which is a documentary focusing on human interaction. Tidewater Friends of Acoustic Music will have their own stage showcasing over a dozen concerts from local musicians, bands, and songwriters.
Other venues taking part in Proteus Festival include The Westin, Sandler Center for the Arts, and Regal Cinemas. These locations will serve as other places to catch a film, workshop, panel discussion and classes. Public art will also take over the Town Center Plaza and the new plaza in front of Zeiders American Dream Theater. Culinary pop-ups including a Saturday morning pancake bar from Tupelo Honey Restaurant and Nektar Liquor tasting. Those are just a few of the offerings on the schedule. Each day will conclude with an after party in The Z’s Main Lobby.
