Last night, more than 40 people gathered to reflect, remember, share and mourn together at a candlelight vigil to commemorate the first anniversary of the Pulse Nightclub shooting that left 49 dead in Orlando.
The vigil was organized by the Hampton Roads Justice Network and took place at The Plot, in Norfolk’s NEON District with the Bob’s Gun Shop mural looming ironically in the background. Attendees were treated to a brief speech by local activist and former Norfolk City Councilman Nicole Carry who encouraged all present to become involved in civic life at all levels.
Following Ms. Carry’s remarks attendees were encouraged to share how the Pulse tragedy impacted their lives in the past year, recite poems or read a meaningful passage that brought them comfort.
