Cancellations and postponements due to the COVID-19 continue to mount as Hampton Roads Pride and Stonewall Sports Norfolk announced cancellations of PrideFest activities in June and cancellation of kickball season.
Hampton Roads PrideFest Week
Hampton Roads Pride Board of Directors decided to postpone all June events including the 32nd Annual PrideFest, 9th Annual Pride Block Party and 2nd Annual Pride at the Beach scheduled for June 19-21, 2020. All other Pride Month and Pride Week celebrations will also be postponed due to COVID-19.
A new date for PrideFest has not been announced, but the Hampton Roads Pride Board of Directors said in a statement that it is working with sponsors and reviewing its options. In addition to PrideFest, Ghent Pride, the Pride Block Party and Pride at the Beach were also postponed.
“Our Board of Directors agrees that the safest course of action is to postpone all planned Hampton Roads Pride events scheduled for this June. We are working with our partners to determine what options are available to celebrate later this year,” said Cole Werkheiser, President of Hampton Roads Pride. “It is important to recognize and celebrate our Pride,” Werkheiser said, “and we will see that through. Our community is strong, we are resilient and we believe Pride matters!”
In a statement posted on social media, Hampton Roads Pride also announced the 2020 theme of #PrideMatters.
Stonewall Sports Norfolk
In a statement released on April 2, Stonewall Sports Norfolk will cancel the Spring Kickball season and postpone all social and sports activities through the beginning of June or until the social distancing directive is lifted by state and local authorities.
In addition, registered players for this cancelled season will receive site credit to their Stonewall Norfolk LeagueApps account. This site credit will be the difference between what you paid at the time of registration, and the cost for your player shirt ($15) and a $5 charitable donation to our beneficiaries: The LGBT Life Center of Hampton Roads and Transgender Assistance Program of Virginia.
- Those who used umpire credit from a previous season will receive the amount used back to their Stonewall Norfolk LeagueApps account.
- All registered players for the Spring 2020 kickball season can pickup their player shirt at our T-shirt pickup, date to be announced pending COVID-19 restrictions.
