Downtown Norfolk Setting for First Annual ‘Stiletto Stomp’

Downtown Norfolk’s Granby Street was the setting for the First Annual Stiletto Stomp, a high heel drag race benefit to kick off Pride month.

Hundreds of attendees at Downtown Norfolk’s First Friday’s block party looked on as a group of fierce and adventurous persons braved the heat, humidity and potential injury to run, walk or sashay up and down a section of Granby St. in downtown Norfolk.

The ‘stomp’ was hosted by Ms. Jennifer Warner, Gay HRVA’s favorite drag performer and  local hero.  The event also served as a fundraiser to endow a scholarship in the honor of her close friend, Thomas Hitt who was killed by a drunk driver in January 2018.  All entrants, aka ‘stompers,’ contributed $10 to the scholarship and raced for prizes contributed by area businesses and organizations.

The Stiletto Stomp was organized by OutWire757 and would not have been possible without the the open minds and generosity provided by Jessica Kilner and her colleagues of the Downtown Norfolk Council.

OutWire757 would like to thank all of the ‘stompers’ for braving the heat and humidity and hope you are not sore today!  We had a great time and are excited to begin planning the second annual Stiletto Stomp.  If you have any ideas or suggestions to improve next year’s event, please let us know at editor@outwire757.com or via comments on social media.

In addition, OutWire757 would like to give a giant THANK YOU to the businesses and organizations that generously donated prizes for the ‘stompers.’  They are as follows:

  • Brick Anchor Brew House
  • Virginia Stage Company
  • MJ’s Tavern
  • Norfolk Botanical Gardens
  • Karnage Asada Food Truck
  • Streats
  • Virginia Arts Festival
  • American Rover
  • Groovy Lab in a Box

See you on the streets next year!
