After an extensive process by Equality Virginia’s Search Committee, the organization announced Saturday that Narissa Rahaman (she/her) was hired as Executive Director.
Rahaman served as the Human Rights Campaign’s Associate Regional Campaign Director. She will succeed outgoing Executive Director Vee Lamneck on February 2.
EV’s Search Committee received more than 60 applications from a diverse range of candidates across the country for this position. Over the past four months, the committee conducted a rigorous and thorough process of reviewing these applications and holding multiple stages of interviews with numerous well-qualified candidates. Equality Virginia staff also participated and provided feedback during various stages of the process.
Rahaman is an experienced advocate and campaign manager who previously served as an Associate Regional Campaign Director for the Human Rights Campaign where she managed legislative and electoral efforts across multiple southern states. She is originally from Barbados and raised in Florida. She now resides in Richmond, Virginia with her partner.
“Narissa’s previous position as the Human Rights Campaign’s Associate Regional Campaign Director has distinguished her as a nationally recognized leader in LGBTQ equality,” said Bryan Priice, EV Chairman of the Board. “We are confident that under her leadership, the organization’s success and impact will continue to flourish as will our commitment to racial justice.”
