Equality Virginia and its Virginia Values Coalition partners will join Governor Ralph Northam for a ceremonial signing of the Virginia Values Act on Thursday, July 23 at 10 a.m. at Diversity Richmond.
The Virginia Values Act went into effect on July 1 and provides nondiscrimination protections in employment, housing and public accommodations for LGBTQ+ people. Before the passage of the Virginia Values Act, the state’s 257,400 LGBTQ+ adults were at risk of being fired, evicted or denied service in restaurants or stores. The historic law adds sexual orientation and gender identity to the state’s anti-discrimination laws.
Governor Northam will be joined at the ceremony by Vee Lamneck, Equality Virginia Executive Director, James Parrish, Virginia Values Coalition Director and LGBTQ+ individuals and allies from throughout the Commonwealth.
The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 23 at Diversity Richmond’s Event Hall. This event is not open to the general public. However, the ceremonial signing will be live-streamed on Equality Virginia’s Facebook page.
