Nation’s First Anti-LGBT Bill Signed Into Law

On Tuesday, Kansas Governor Sam Brownback (R), signed into law a ‘religious freedom’ bill, marking the first anti-LGBT legislation codified in the nation.  At the signing ceremony were lobbyists from Kansas Catholic Conference and the Family Policy Alliance of Kansas.  Opponents of the legislation point out that the law will allow student clubs/associations to refuse membership to LGBT students at taxpayer-funded public institutions.

Nationwide, more than 200 pieces of anti-LGBT legislation are under consideration by state lawmakers.  Gov. Brownback will be a footnote in history as he is the first governor to sign anti-LGBT legislation into law.
