Over the last four decades, same-sex marriage has gone from a preposterous notion to one of the most successful civil rights campaigns in the world.
The Freedom to Marry is a “War Room” style feature documentary about the movement for marriage for same-sex couples, from the final frenetic months of the legal and grassroots campaign.
The film follows Evan Wolfson, the architect the movement, civil rights attorney Mary Bonauto and their key colleagues on this decades long battle, culminating in a dramatic fight at the United States Supreme Court.
The movie will go into limited release on March 3. A local viewing is scheduled at the Naro Cinema on March 29 as part of their New Progressive Cinema Wednesday night documentary series.
Organizations and individuals can also request a screening.
