Green Run Collegiate Foundation Announces Unique Virtual Valentine’s Day Event, A Toast to Love

A Toast to Love inaugural wine tasting and entertainment event benefitting Virginia’s only public charter school based in Virginia Beach is slated for 7:30 p.m., February 13, 2021. The virtual event offers the region an opportunity to support Green Run Collegiate students in pursuit of International Baccalaureate and higher education while enjoying Valentine’s Day celebrations safely at home.

Prior to the event, New Kent Winery will ship four bottles to each participant which includes prize-winning Chardonnay, White Merlot, Meritage, and Trinity wines. On the evening of the wine tasting, hostess Deanna McRae King will guide attendees through a tasting of each wine with Joe and Jacob Dombroski, the owners of New Kent. Additionally, participants will be treated to the sounds of national recording artists Delta Rae.

A live auction during the event includes such items as a week stay for two at a privately owned condo at the oceanfront, original jewelry created by David Nygaard, and locally created artwork. Additionally, there will be a silent auction which will be open online during the week prior to the event.

“The Green Run Collegiate Foundation has created this fundraiser with a focus on fun and charity”, said Foundation President Joe Burnsworth. All proceeds from the event will support the Summer Bridge Program which helps to ease the transition for students from the middle school setting to high school, and more specifically, to the high expectations of Green Run Collegiate and the International Baccalaureate. Funds also will help defray the fees for students to pay the IB Assessments so that they may enter college debt free.”

Two Virginia Beach oceanfront hotels, The Cavalier on the Hill and the new Cavalier Marriott Hotel, are planning special event pricing for participants who would like to enjoy the evening with this additional option.

Several sponsorship levels are available including wine, promotion, and additional gifts such as name/ logoed bottles. One sponsorship, the $5000 Sommelier Sponsor, also includes a premier room and dinner package for two at the new Cavalier Marriott Hotel.

Tickets for the evening’s event are available through February 5 at the Tasting Room. The $150 ticket plus tax includes shipping and two wine glasses. For more information about the event, to donate an auction item or secure a sponsorship, please contact Bill Walters at treasurer@grcfound.org.

The Green Run Collegiate International Baccalaureate (IB) program supports approximately 500 students, grades 9th through 12th, selected from schools throughout Virginia Beach. GRC is a public-funded, comprehensive high school operated under charter and held accountable by the Virginia Beach Public School System. What makes the difference is that the teachers and staff of GRC have the flexibility to provide multiple pathways to an IB education based on interests and how students learn.

In addition to the rigorous IB curriculum, students fulfilling their requirements may also attend the Advanced Technology Center (ATC), the Technical and Career Education Center or the Governor’s School for the Arts. GRC was recently recognized with the Virginia Board of Education Highest Achievement Award, an honor for the second year in a row that GRC was the only high school in Virginia Beach to earn this distinction.
