Hampton Roads Pride Postpones August Pride Events

Due to COVIC-19, Hampton Roads Pride announced yesterday that two August Pride events have been postponed until 2021. The 2nd Annual Pride Night at Harbor Park and the 6th Annual Pride Party on the Peninsula will be rescheduled at a later date.

“In conjunction with our community partners and the Board of Directors, we have determined that it is neither safe nor feasible to hold in-person celebrations this year,” said Hampton Roads Pride president Cole Werkheiser. “We were genuinely looking forward to gathering for our rescheduled mini-Pride Week events in August culminating with the 6th Annual Pride Party on the Peninsula: Phabulous Phoebus event. However, we cannot ignore the data and recommended guidelines and stand in solidarity with the leadership of Governor Northam and local governing bodies.”

Hampton Roads Pride also postponed the Pride at the Beach event scheduled on October 3, until 2021 as well. President Cole Werkheiser went on to state, “We will be releasing plans soon to host our 3rd Annual Run the Rainbow 5K + Fun Run as a virtual race. We will continue to share new editions of our #PrideMatters video campaign series weekly on social media leading up to the week of the race.”

The Run the Rainbow 5K + Fun Run event was originally scheduled to be held on October 3, 2020 on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk, but can no longer be held in-person.

“The date of the Run the Rainbow 5K + Fun Run event remains scheduled for October 3, 2020,” said Werkheiser. “Stay tuned for registration details for the now virtual race which participants can walk, skip, hop or run to complete. T-shirts and race medals will still be provided to all participants.”
