On June 28th at 5:30pm, Virginia Beach’s Drop Box CrossFit will participate in a nationwide fundraising event for the OUT Foundation called #InfiltrateWithLove, a WOD celebrating inclusivity and support of the LGBTQ+ community and those marginalized because of how and who they love.
The nationwide event was organized after an Indianapolis CrossFit gym cancelled a PRIDE event on June 1 citing “the directors and owners of [the gym] value health and wellness and they believe that this [pride] event does not.” On June 3, 2018 – CrossFit, Inc released a statement fully supporting the LGBTQ community stating “CrossFit is a diverse community in every way and that’s what makes us strong. No matter who you are, how you’re built, what you believe, or who or how you love–we are proud of you.”takes place on June 30, but Drop Box Crossfit is holding its event on June 28 so as not to conflict with PrideFest in Downtown Norfolk.
Drop Box Crossfit has created a unique workout for the event called THE WOD “STONEWALL” that includes 12 Minute AMRAP 6 Squat Cleans (135/95), 28 Double Unders, 6 shoulder to overhead (135/95) and 9 Burpees.
Why this workout? In the early hours of June 28, 1969, New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay club located in Greenwich Village in New York City. The raid sparked a riot among bar patrons and neighborhood residents as police roughly hauled employees and patrons out of the bar, leading to six days of protests and violent clashes with law enforcement outside the bar on Christopher Street, in neighboring streets and in nearby Christopher Park. The Stonewall Riots served as a catalyst for the gay rights movement in the United States and around the world.
Proceeds from the event will benefit The OUT Foundation, whose mission is to ensure access to and inclusion – not just mere tolerance – within the fitness community and this includes the CrossFit affiliations of gyms. We are proud to stand in solidarity with CrossFit, Inc and their support of our community.
