ACCESS AIDS Care/The LGBT Center of Hampton Roads will present a “Community Conversation: Moving Forward After the 2016 Elections,” tomorrow night (Thursday) at 7 p.m. at The LGBT Center of Hampton Roads. This forum will bring together members of the Hampton Roads LGBT community and their allies to discuss the wide-ranging implications of the 2016 election and to offer a safe place of gathering and support.

Today, many in the LGBT community woke up realizing that the future Trump Administration may radically alter the political and social landscape, challenging or reversing recent progress toward marriage equality, affordable access to healthcare, bans on conversion therapy, transgender acceptance and other forms of discrimination. Statements and the lack of policy detail put forth by President-Elect Donald Trump and his running mate Vice President-Elect Mike Pence during the campaign have given many members of the LGBT community cause for concern for their rights to live openly and without prejudice.

Local activist and former Norfolk City Councilwoman Nicole Carry will moderate an open panel discussion where attendees will be encouraged to share their feelings and concerns about how the 2016 elections may impact the community. This forum will also be an opportunity for the Hampton Roads LGBT community to renew its commitment to another, to listen and learn, speak out and offer support to continue moving forward together.

This event will be free, open to the public and will take place at The LGBT Center of Hampton Roads, located at 247 W. 25th Street, Norfolk, VA 23517.
