LGBT Center Presents “My Family,” A Photo Exhibition Of Diverse Local Families

ACCESS AIDS Care/LGBT Center of Hampton Roads is presenting “My Family,” a pop-up photographic exhibition featuring the diversity of Hampton Roads’ LGBTQ families on Thursday, March 23 at Work | Release in Norfolk.

ACCESS AIDS Care/LGBT Center of Hampton Roads commissioned this photo essay to demonstrate the wide diversity of families in our community. While each family featured is unique and integral to the quality of life in Coastal Virginia, they are also defined for the love they feel for one another.

“Members of the LGBTQ community have defined family in non-traditional ways,” said Andrew Roberts, Marketing and Events Manager at ACCESS AIODS care. “They have challenged traditional notions regarding the composition of the American family and with it, the underlying social fabric that binds us together.”

Subjects featured in the “My Family” exhibit all live and work in Hampton Roads and were photographed by Heather Hughes, a Newport News-based photographer.
