Today for the first time, the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) endorsed a presidential candidate. In this election year, it should not come as a surprise that the group of LGBT business leaders chose to endorse Hillary Clinton. The endorsement comes after a vote by the Board of Directors of the NGLCC held at their annual leadership conference. In a statement released earlier today, NGLCC CEO Chance Mitchell states:
“The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce has never endorsed a candidate in its nearly fifteen year history, but the stakes have never been so high for the future of the LGBT business community. Hillary Clinton is the progressive champion our businesses and our families need to thrive,” said NGLCC Co-Founder and CEO Chance Mitchell.
“The LGBT community has come too far to lose its seat at the table, and we are certain that Secretary Clinton will be the President fighting for the collective economic and social longevity of America’s 1.4 million LGBT business owners.”
This is the first political endorsement by the NGLCC and comes after the group celebrated a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the LGBT business community and the Democratic National Committee. At the signing of the MOU, the NGLCC unveiled the hashtag #LGBTBiz4Hillary
