Virginia Stage’s production of The Wiz is in the middle of a successful run at the Wells Theater, and tomorrow night the company welcomes all Friends of Dorothy for NightOUT, the LGBTQ performance cosponsored by Hampton Roads Pride.
Produced in collaboration with the Norfolk State University theater department, this multiple Tony Award-winning musical adventure has received critical acclaim for film, television, and Broadway productions for more than 40 years. The Virginia Stage production will feature cast members from New York as well as Norfolk State University.
“The Wiz is the really big show that Stage Company subscribers have been waiting for,” writes Virginian Pilot reviewer Mal Vincent. “It’s all singing, all dancing, all sassy wit in a way that feels more spontaneous than rehearsed, which is refreshing.”
Tomorrow night’s production will be followed by a reception at the theater. Tickets are still available at the door or online.
