About 40 people turned out on a brisk Sunday afternoon to participate in the Third Annual Queer Walking Tour of Norfolk presented by the Tidewater Queer History Project. Researched and led by ODU professor Cathleen Rhodes’ Queer Studies students, the tour visited the sites of eight locations with significance to the Norfolk LGBTQ community.
Using historical interpretation and storytelling techniques to create an immersive experience for participants, the students told the stories behind former gay bars and the people behind them, the Unitarian Church, Hampton Roads Pride, and the Tidewater AIDS Crisis Task Force.
