Yesterday’s election could be history-making as local businessman David Nygaard bid to unseat incumbent Virginia Beach City Councilman John Uhrin heads to a recount. Nygaard’s lead is fewer than 200, which will require a recount, including approximately 900 provisional ballots.
If his election is confirmed, Nygaard would become the city’s first openly gay member of Virginia Beach’s City Council. Allison White, a Suffolk high school teacher and transgender candidate for an at-large seat on the Council lost her bid last night to incumbent John Moss.
