Red Ribbon Week and World AIDS Day a Reminder that HIV Still Impacts the Community

Amidst the post-Thanksgiving hoopla about ‘Black Friday’, ‘Cyber Monday’ and Prince Harry’s engagement, Red Ribbon Week and World AIDS Day are being observed worldwide and here in Hampton Roads.  Throughout the region, a series of events are underway this week to remind people that HIV/AIDS, while treatable and preventable, remains a deadly disease.  If you want to learn more or get involved, we have listed a few events and activities happening this week.

Wear a Red Ribbon all Week!

The LGBLT Life Center is promoting a Red Ribbon Campaign this year, encouraging people to purchase red ribbons (available at the LGBT Life Center, MJ’s Tavern, Decorum Furniture, Streast and Todd Rosenlieb Dance).  For more than 25 years, the Red Ribbon has been a simple, yet powerful way for people to unite, and speak up about the impact of HIV/AIDS.  By wearing the red ribbon, you demonstrate that you are part of the fight to end the HIV epidemic. All proceeds from Red Ribbon Week support LGBT Life Center’s programs and services, including HIV testing, housing, and nutrition support.  You may also obtain a red ribbon by contacting Clayton Howard at 757-640-0929 or emailing choward@lgbtlifecenter.org.
