Earlier today, President Trump became the first sitting President to address the conservative, evangelical Value Voters Summit planned by the Family Research Council, and anti-LGBT group.
President Trump, who ran as a self-styled “friend” to the LGBT community told attendees he was “thrilled and honored” to speak at the summit.
According to a report by National Public Radio (NPR), President Trump received a standing ovation when he talked of appointing Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court. Trump noted he signed a religious liberty order on the National Day of Prayer that eased enforcement of the Johnson Amendment, which regulated political activity of churches. And he reminded the crowd that last week he also weakened the contraception mandate in the Affordable Care Act, which some religious groups like the Little Sisters of the Poor opposed.
“We are stopping cold the attacks on Judeo-Christian values,” Trump said to applause.

Attendees at the summit were given swag bags that contained promotional items for a book titled “The Hazards of Homosexuality.” The book’s Amazon page refers to the “the baneful nature of homosexuality and its associated addictions and behaviors that invite disease.” Other topics include, “Why homosexuality is a public health issue, and not just a private issue”; “The mental health issues: depression, anxiety, suicidality, substance use, partner abuse, and BDSM (bondage/sexual sadomasochism)”; “Why homosexuals have shortened lifespans, chronic conditions, lower quality of life”; “The psychological and medical issues of transgenderism”; and “Child abuse: interventions supporting ‘transgender’ identities in youth.”
The book is authored by “MassResistance,” an anti-LGBT group based in Massachusetts.
