As reported in the Huffington Post today, President Donald Trump has not acknowledged June 1, 2017 as the beginning of LGBTQ Pride month, missing an opportunity to be the first Republican president to publicly recognize the annual month dedicated to the queer community.
Trump campaigned as the ‘most LGBT friendly candidate’ – but his actions since taking office are more in line with the homophobic GOP platform adopted in 2016. Given the demands of the presidency, hopefully he will send out a proclamation in the next few days.
However, while the LGBT community received a great deal of recognition during the Obama years, we do not need approval from any occupant of the White House to show our PRIDE.
