Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant signed into law an anti-LGBT law which essentially makes LGBT segregation legal. The bill, sold as another attempt to protect ‘religious liberty’ legalizes discrimination. For example, it would allow religious landlords to evict LGBT renters, employers to dismiss LGBT workers and other private businesses from providing services.
This bill is unique in its animus aimed at LGBT people in Mississippi. As with the recently passed law in North Carolina, the constitutionality of the Mississippi law are already being challenged in court.
