The Grand Reopening of the Wells Theatre Is January 20

Virginia Stage Company is back in the Historic Wells Theatre after a nine-month renovation and will officially reopen with opening night of A Streetcar Named Desire on January 20.

Updates to the space include two new classrooms, a new bar in the renovated and more welcoming Tazewell lounge, a new electronic marquee, and as requested – more ladies’ restrooms. Tours of the theatre are available for groups upon request.

The  Grand Reopening on January 20 begins at 6:30pm. The event will include a ribbon cutting, entertainment from local musicians throughout the building, and the opening night performance of A Streetcar Named Desire written by Tennessee Williams and directed by Chris Hanna.

“This event promises to be one of the can’t miss event of the season,” said Brad Tuggle, marketing Director. “No show could be more perfect for the Grand Reopening of the Wells Theatre.”

In conjunction with Hampton Roads Pride, Virginia Stage will again host LGBT NightOUT on January 28 with a special Streetcar performance and ticket packages.

The building’s magnificent architecture and Williams’ towering masterpiece represent the best in American creative achievement. Very few plays continue to make as powerful an impact as when they were first written and performed, but Tennessee Williams’ classic, is one. Brought to life with fresh staging and talent, Streetcar captures the yearning and humanity that has gripped audiences since Stanley Kowalski first cried out into the New Orleans night.
