Happy Halloween from OutWire757! If you are of a ‘certain age’, you will certainly recall the sarcastic, funny always grinning Paul Lynde from ‘Bewitched’ and ‘Hollywood Squares’. For many, Lynde and Charles Nelson Reilly were about as ‘out’ as a celebrity could be in the 1960’s and 70’s. Mr. Lynde and Reilly were always on hand to deliver dripping sarcasm or a naughty double entendre.
In 1976, Lynde starred in a very campy, very 70’s Halloween Special for ABC. Featuring Margaret Hamilton (Wicked Witch from ‘The Wizard of Oz’), performances by Pinky Tuscadero, Tim Conway, Betty White and Florence Henderson, a disco dance number and the first TV appearance by the band KISS. There is something for everyone on this trip back in time.
Write Bruce Villanch was a young writer for this show and he produced a segment for the Archive of American Television about the now classic Halloween Special you may view below.
Pour yourself a drink and enjoy the a trip to 1976.
