Hampton Roads Business Outreach (HRBOR), Virginia’s first LGBT Chamber of Commerce, supports the passage, signing, and implementation of the Virginia Values Act.
The Virginia Values Act (SB868) prohibits discrimination in public accommodations, employment, credit, and housing on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. Currently, there is no protection for LGBT Virginians against discrimination in public accommodations, employment, credit, or housing making Virginia less competitive for businesses and workers.
As Virginia’s first LGBT Chamber of Commerce HRBOR has a specific focus on making Virginia more welcoming and equal marketplace and workplace. Virginia should not be a place where gay and lesbian citizens can be married on Saturday and fired on Monday. We urge Governor Northam to sign the bill without additional amendments and quickly implement the new legal protections Virginian’s desperately need.
