New Social and Speaker Series Will Focus on Local “Women OUT Front”

On March 26, the LGBT Life Center will present the first in a quarterly social and speaker series titled “Women OUT Front, A Hampton Roads Women’s Social” at the Slover Library in downtown Norfolk.

Cathleen Rhodes of the ODU Department of Women’s Studies and founder of Tidewater Queer History Project will give the first keynote address titled “Lesbians Front and Center: A History of Queer Women’s Activism and Culture in Hampton Roads.”

Organizers plan to produce this event on a quarterly basis. Each event will feature a social component and keynote speaker, culminating with an annual Gala, the first of which will take place during Fall 2020. At the Gala, an award will be given to acknowledge lesbian and queer women who are either from Hampton Roads or who live in Hampton Roads that have made an impact in the community.

In a social media post earlier this week, LGBT Life Center’s CEO, Stacie Walls said that,

“I am beyond thrilled to see LGBT Life Center offer this event series for lesbians and queer women in Hampton Roads. The LGBT Life Center is creating space for lesbians, queer women, woman-identifying, gender nonconforming and gender allies to gather and find community.”

The event starts 6:15 p.m. with a social hour featuring cocktails for purchase and hors d’oeuvres followed by the keynote speaker at 7:30 p.m. Early bird tickets are $25 until March 15, after March 15, the ticket price rises to $35. Click HERE to purchase tickets.
