This past weekend, Norfolk Police shot and killed India Beaty in the parking lot of an East Oceanview strip mall. Norfolk Police (NPD) officers were monitoring the area for an unrelated investigation when they say they saw 25-year-old India Beaty pull what appeared to be a gun on an unarmed man during an argument. According to the NPD, the officers confronted Beaty, she refused to drop the weapon and made a threatening motion with what police believe was a real handgun. NPD officers shot her and she died at the scene.
According to the Virginia-Pilot, Beaty was an aspiring rapper and engaged to her girlfriend, considering her girlfriend’s children as her own. The two police officers involved in the incident are currently on administrative duty pending the outcome of the incident investigation.
