In conjunction with the LGBT Center of Hampton Roads, the Hampton Roads Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) is producing the first gay prom for area high school students. Prom night is Saturday, June 11 from 7 until 11 PM at the Norfolk Yacht & Country Club

The prom is part of the Girl Scout Gold Award project of Maury High School student Madison Finke.

“For my Girl Scout Gold Award, I started a Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) Chapter at Maury  and am helping high schools start GSA’s that don’t have them,” said Finke.  “The LGBT Center is co-sponsoring this prom, which will be a recruiting event to encourage students to join or start GSA’s at their high schools.”

The is cost $40 per person, which will cover the cost of dinner, photography, and disc jockey.

The LGBT center is collecting donations and enlisting sponsors to help cover admission for those who cannot afford it.

Said Stacie Walls-Beegle, LGBT Center Executive Director, “Kids who can’t afford the $40 ticket can call the Center if they need help attending, as can anyone wishing to donate and make it happen.”

Tickets are available at www.paypal.me/GSAProm or by check made payable to Girl Scout Troop 454, 1331 Surrey Crescent, Norfolk, VA 23508.
