An unusually warm morning in Norfolk’s Lakewood Park was the setting for Stonewall Sports Norfolk’s grand opening and beginning of their inaugural fall kickball season.
Stonewall Sports Norfolk is the nation’s fifteenth city to host a league and Sunday’s grand opening featured opening remarks by Martin Espinoza, Co-Founder and President of Stonewall Sports based in Washington, D.C. and Del. Jay Jones. Norfolk Mayor Kenny Alexander and City Councilwoman Courtney Doyle rolled ceremonial first pitches. In addition to players, the board of Stonewall Sports Norfolk and representatives from designated charities (Transgender Assistance Program (TAP) and For Kids participated in the opening day ceremonies.
