OutWire757 recently announced the addition of a LGBTQ Youth and Student written and produced magazine to its suite of LGBTQ media serving Hampton Roads. OutGuide757’s Student Edition is scheduled to publish next month and coincide with back to school and the area’s first LGBTQ Consumer and Career Expo.
“This is a passion project for us,” said Publisher Eric Hause. “I wish I had a LGBTQ resource like this when I was young and struggling with my identity.”
The publication’s content is targeted to high school and college youth and is being developed by a staff of area students and young people.
Old Dominion University student and editor Sarah Hustead said, “What particularly excites me is that this magazine is 100% written and produced by the people it’s for. We have a small army of young people creating original content for their peers.”
The magazine’s contents includes dressing and makeup tips for transgender youth, a comparison of Virginia LGBTQ-friendly universities, tips on how to start a high school gay-straight alliance, an LGBTQ student resource directory, and a number of interviews with Hampton Roads student leaders.
The magazine will be distributed free to Hampton Roads’ university and college GSA and Diversity offices, high school GSAs, at the Hampton Roads LGBTQ Consumer & Career Expo and upcoming Pride celebrations, and via an online version.
