Name and Gender Marker Change Seminar Set for July 20

The LGBT Life Center and Burroughs Law Office will be hosting a name change and gender marker seminar Thursday, July 20 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the LGBT Life Center located at 247 W. 25th St. in Norfolk.

Attendees will learn how to begin the name change and gender marker process for residents of Virginia.  For many, this can be a confusing process as much of the information online can be overwhelming and sometimes conflicting.  Name Change and Gender Marker Change Seminar for Virginia residents.

Burroughs Law Office will provide specific paperwork and outlined procedures for Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Newport News, Hampton, Suffolk, and Isle of Wight County. Staff will also be on hand to look up other jurisdictions upon request.  As this process is localized, each city has a different procedure and some have additional requirements above and beyond the Virginia requirements.

The seminar will also provide information about what documents need to be changed after the legal name change such as driver’s license, social security, passport, birth certificate, and financial records.

For members of the military and government employees, there will be We additional information and if time permits, persons that have gone through this process will discuss the challenges they encountered and other tips to make the process easier.

The seminar will be facilitated by the Burroughs Law Office, P.C. and will feature: Lawren Burroughs, Attorney (trans), Jennifer Burroughs, Paralegal and Geneva Van Pelt, Paralegal.
