This Saturday morning, the Virginia Beach Oceanfront is going to burst forth with vivid colors at Hampton Roads Pride’s first “Run the Rainbow 5k and Fun Run.”
Nearly 200 racers have already signed up for this inaugural event aimed at promoting fitness and as an effort by Hampton Roads Pride to host events throughout the region and raise the profile of the organization beyond the primary PrideFest week celebrations held each June.
Kelly O’Clair, Hampton Roads Pride Board Member and Race Director helped organize the race and said,
“I wanted to put this race on to show the real definition of inclusion, gay, straight, black, white, old, young – we all are human and coming together for something like a run, walk, skip proves just that… happiness though endorphins, you can’t beat that.”
The race will be led by a contingent from Ainsley’s Angels Hampton Roads chapter and racers or all abilities are encouraged to run, walk or skip the 5K (3.1 miles) down the Virginia Beach Boardwalk. The race starts at the 24th Street Beach Park promptly at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Kids Fun Run at 10 am. Additionally, the race will be professionally timed by Mettle Events and a portion of the $35 registration fee will be donated to a local charity. If you have not registered for the race, you may do so online, at Croc’s 19th Street Bistro on Oct. 5 from 3-7 p.m. and the morning of the race from 7:30-9:00 a.m.
Immediately following the race will be an After Party at Calypso Bar & Grill VB located at 1101 Atlantic Ave. in Virginia Beach.
